I know many 9–5 workers won’t like the title of this article but I’m enjoying my work, and it feels good to finally arrive on Monday after such a long weekend. I work 9–5 in the public service somewhere in the world.

There’s a lot of important work going on all around the world. There are so many problems begging for solutions. Public and private organisations are ontologically formatted for problem-solving. It is our responsibility to contribute in any way to providing solutions to global challenges.

I love working for the government because this is where services are tailored and delivered for societal upkeep and development. The effectiveness of public services is something that has remained dear to my heart since I was a little kid.

How can the government manage its scarce resources to provide public goods and services for individuals and businesses? How can the government create an enabling environment for individuals and businesses to grow and flourish?

Economic progress is severely hindered when national governments fail in their duty to provide an enabling environment. This lack of progress can lead to disaffection within the populace and could spiral into violence and disorder in extreme cases.
